Getting More Myriad - Sunday 16 May
May 16, 2004

A half-day seminar on getting more out of your writing at Myriad...

Myriad isn't as easy as advertised: not because RP is hard, but because what's being asked is more than a simple scene or the random tossing together of characters... it the complex writing of an ongoing and maturing shared narrative of which characters are only one part. The bigger part is the narrative itself -- the story they create when they step out into the world, and how they interact with those that are already in progress.

Each person must, to coin a phrase, think globally, but act locally (as well as specifically). The discussions hopefully will help!

Why Myriad -- Will
A discussion on what was the point of Myriad, some of the personal goals, questions, philosophies and experiments set out in the creation of Myriad that often inform what's going on. (1 hr)

Thematic Exploration -- Will
A quick overview of some of the largest themes explored in the last 5 years and how to think in the biggest of pictures. (1 hr)

Leaves, Tendrils, and Roots: Developing & Maturing Storylines -- Cris
With thanks to Saffron@Paris, we'll look at a process of constructing good short, intermediate, and long-term roleplaying for your primary and secondary interests while leaving doors for others' involvement. (1.5 hr)

Stalled Characters: When A Good Character Goes Bad -- Maire
How to jump-start a roleplayed character who's gotten away from you. Despite popular belief, there are specific things you can do... (1 hr)

Cross-Pollination: Forcing Bulbs - Cris
Tulips can be 'forced' to grow in shortened cycles. We'll look at how to do such with characters, storylines, and building projects. (30 m)

The seminar will begin at noon central.
